Durban International Film Festival

Every year the biggest and brightest names in the film industry converge on Durban’s sunny shores to premier their latest creations! Durban International film Festival aka DIFF celebrates its 33rd edition from the 19th to the 29th of July 2012, in various venues around Kwa-Zulu Natal.

If you live in the Kwa-Zulu Natal area and have never attended DIFF I do believe you have been missing out! Now friends I have been an attendee of this incredible festival for the last 5 years, and I have been truly humbled by the amazing stories that have graced our silver screens. The festival allows you to view films from around the world, from countries such as Thailand and Korea, then those featuring big name actors such as last years festival favourite with Brad Pitt in Tree of Life.

This is one of our country’s longest running festivals and presents over 250 films from around the world, with a focus on South African cinema. Given that the festival is filled with some world renowned film-makers, the organizers ensure a multitude of Master classes and other conferences in which aspiring film-makers and the audience can meet and interact with these interesting individuals!

Since our seaside town is going to be filled with visitors from all around the world, I suggest you book your accommodation immediately, especially if you’re jetting in from the other provinces!

I suggest, for your DIFF getaway with or without company, is to take full advantage of all Durban has to offer!  Stay at The Palace Resort and Spa, where you will find yourself amidst the finer things in Durban’s laid back lifestyle. Awaken to the sound of the waves breaking along the shoreline, which will be followed by a delicious breakfast at the resorts restaurant Pesto. You can take the time to be pampered at the resorts in house spa, Cellu-Beauty Spas.

If you’re looking to spend more time at the festival and use your accommodation for the pure purpose of sleeping, then Durban Sands offers comfortable bedrooms overlooking Durban’s ocean and is close to all festival screenings.

If this is the only event you participate, trust me friends the experience will not be wasted!
