Silly Sardine Run
Each year Durban’s KZN coastline goes just a little bit crazy with the return of our fishy friends!
What fishy friends you ask, well it’s the Sardine Run of course! During the months of June and July KZN’ shores are lined with hundreds of people clambering to grab their share of the seas jewels. The sheer numbers create a feeding frenzy both on and off the shore, and during the season one can find these delicious fish all along the beach front and of course in the neighborhood!
The shoals are often more than 7 kilmometres in length, 1.5 kilometers’ wide and about 30 metres deep, truly one of the most fascinating acts of nature.
So you’ve never been a part of the Sardine Run? I think its time you make your way over to the east coast and join in the utter lunacy of the event, honestly everyone’s involved! Local radio stations begin ‘Sardine-Watch’ in early June just to make sure we’re all prepared.
To get you settled we have some amazing accommodation venues just for you! Why not try The Palace Hotel and Spa situated on Durban’s millionaire’s mile, directly across from the shoreline. Then we have the fun and vibrant Durban Sands with its secluded balcony with beautiful views overlooking the gorgeous ocean. The Don Oceanic Hotel and Spa is located in the heart of Durban and is the perfect location to go out and explore the night-life.
